Supporting Mothers Every Step of the Way: A Year of Care and Community

At the Akani Simbine Foundation, our commitment to community support extends far beyond a single day. Throughout 2025, we stood alongside new mothers, ensuring they felt supported, valued, and equipped as they began their journey into motherhood.

On Mother’s Day, we launched a special initiative dedicated to celebrating first-time mothers and helping them enter this new chapter with grace and dignity. The programme focused on providing essential items and emotional support during a time that can often feel overwhelming for many women.

Our efforts continued in August, during Women’s Month, when we carried out a second run of the initiative. This time, our team visited mothers directly to deliver carefully prepared hoodie bags, ensuring that support reached them in a personal and meaningful way.

The initiative will conclude with a third and final run in December, when we return to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital for a Christmas-themed outreach. This visit aims to bring comfort, practical support, and a sense of celebration to mothers spending the festive season in hospital with their newborns.

Across these three runs, the programme supported a total of 32 mothers in 2025, providing essential items and reinforcing the message that no mother should feel alone during this life-changing period.

We extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Biogen and the Dis-Chem Foundation, whose generous contributions made all three runs of this initiative possible. Their continued support ensured that every mother we reached received thoughtfully prepared care packages that met both practical and emotional needs.

A key part of this programme is encouraging mothers to support one another. By inviting mothers to donate gently used clothing and baby essentials, we are helping create a cycle of care where women uplift other women, strengthening the wider community in the process.

Through Mother’s Day, Women’s Month, and our upcoming Christmas outreach, this initiative reflects our belief that motherhood should be met with dignity, compassion, and consistent support throughout the year.
